Olympic Champion and One Show Presenter to close Sustainable Events Summit

London 2012 Olympic champion and slalom canoeist Etienne Stott MBE will join Lucy Siegle, best known for her presenting role on the One Show, for a panel discussion to close the Sustainable Events Summit 2014.  Lucy Siegle, who also created the Observer Ethical Awards, specialises in environmental and social justice issues and ethical consumerism.

Etienne Stott will be launching ‘One Planet Sport’- a brand new series of resources for Sustainable Sports and Events – written by BioRegional and supported by WWF.   Delegates will hear how Etienne, as one of four Team GB athletes, undertook an Ecological Footprint of a year in his life to uncover the challenges faced when trying to do the right thing within the demanding schedule of an elite athlete.  “The message of having to live within the boundaries of ‘One Planet’ is such a simple and eloquent way to express the sustainability challenge we face,” says Etienne Stott MBE.

The One Planet Sport resources include a ‘Vision for a sustainable future’, a ready-made template for the events industry with ISO 20121 compatible definitions and target goals, all based around One Planet Living - that is, living within, and respecting the earth’s resources.  BioRegional Business Manager, Ronan Leyden says: “The events industry has so many opportunities to make progress on a global scale, so we’re excited to be helping professionals take action. This Sustainable Events Summit promises relevant content from great speakers, making this a must-attend event.”

Positive Impact, the global not-for-profit organisation responsible for the content of the Sustainable Events Summit, taking place at 30 Euston Square on 18 February, will support One Planet Living with a series of case studies on their website showing live examples of the strategies being implemented.

During the Summit, Positive Impact will also officially launch its Share a Positive Impact global campaign, urging delegates to share examples of sustainability in action online at  The Sustainable Events Summit community will also have access to further resources provided by Positive Impact to support delegates taking real action.

During the one-day event, delegates will also hear from three panels of corporate event professionals, eager to share their experiences. Delegates will also have the opportunity to attend two practical workshops on measurement, culture creation and stakeholder engagement. These interactive workshops will provide practical education so attendees can leave with a plan of action.

Tickets for the 2014 Sustainable Events Summit are available for Event Industry Association Members, priced £205.00 + vat, with a standard ticket price of £260.00 + vat.  The Sustainable Events Summit is a partnership between Smyle, Positive Impact and Sustainable Events Ltd.
