High profile organisations sign up for York’s second London based showcase ‘York Minster to Westminster 2014’

Buyers from organisations including The Royal Society of Medicine, The Institute for Small Business and Entrepreneurship and CIPFA (the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy) will attend VisitYork4Meetings’ second annual York Minster to Westminster showcase, which will take place at the Houses of Parliament and The Queen Elizabeth 11 Conference Centre, Westminster on 5 March 2014.

The showcase will bring together 20 York venues and service providers with pre-qualified organisers from the meetings, incentive, conference and events industries as well as conference booking agents including Reservations 2000 and Event Pro. VisitYork4Meetings – the business tourism arm of Visit York – will also work with Visit England to bring a group of 10 international incentive buyers to the event.

East Coast trains continue to sponsor the event providing all buyers with complimentary return rail travel to experience York for themselves.

New venues attending the showcase this year include The Jorvik Group, who manage JORVIK Viking Centre, the medieval Barley Hall and archaeology based attraction, DIG. Other venues participating for the first time include the 4-star Hotel Du Vin& Bistro and Hilton York.

Laura Freer, Business Tourism Manager  at VisitYork4Meetings comments:  “We’re building upon the momentum gained last year to deliver an event which will be valuable for both the buyers attending and the venues exhibiting. Many of the organisers we’ve spoken to are impressed by the format, and we have benefitted from word of mouth and positive recommendation already this year, with 25 buyers confirmed prior to our formal invite being sent.”

Rikki Ellsmore, Conference Manager at CIPFA comments: “This will be a good opportunity to build relationships with York suppliers including finding out about what is on offer for our next event. York is a great location, just two hours from London by train, so I am looking forward to find out more from the team at Visit York.”

The inaugural York Minster to Westminster event took place in 2013, attended by 60 event buyers including the Liberal Democrats Head of Conferences and Events who confirmed their Spring Conference in York in for March 2014. It is the first time in the party’s history that it has held its annual conference in York and it is expected that around 1400 delegates will be in the city for the three-day event in March, contributing well over £600,000 to the local economy.

York Minster to Westminster will again receive strong cross-party support from York MPs, with Hugh Bayley (Labour) and Julian Sturdy (Conservative) MP sponsoring the event in the Houses.

The showcase will include afternoon tea for delegates at the Houses of Parliament plus a behind the scenes tour, followed by a York Showcase and buyer appointments at The Queen Elizabeth 11 Conference Centre.
