UK Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (UKSEDS) has selected Leicester as the host city for its 2014 UK conference. UKSEDS is the UK's national student space society and will bring around 300 delegates to the University of Leicester for the conference on 1-2 March 2014 including a social event on 2 March.
UKSEDS selected Leicester following discussions with their local University branch, Leicester AstroSoc at the previous year's conference. This was followed by a formal bid developed by Leicester Shire Promotions and the University of Leicester.
Leicester was chosen as the host city for its large array of space companies and facilities in the local area, especially the University's Physics and Space departments and local industry. Leicester Shire Promotions will also support UKSEDS by providing an online accommodation booking service and visitor information for all delegates.
Jeremy Nickless, Chairman of UKSEDS said: "We're really looking forward to hosting our conference in Leicester in 2014 - it's a great opportunity to show students the University facilities and to get local companies engaged with UKSEDS members looking for careers in the space industry, both in the immediate and longer term."
Martin Peters, Chief Executive of Leicester Shire Promotions added: "We are delighted that UKSEDS has selected Leicester for its 2014 conference. Our event bidding campaign is aimed at attracting national and international conferences and events that have a natural fit with the destination. With our strong heritage in space development, Leicester was able to deliver a strong proposal and we are confident that UKSEDS will enjoy an excellent event in the city."
