The award winning venue celebrated a number of ‘firsts’ including welcoming US President Barack Obama and the First Family to Northern Ireland ahead of the G8 Summit.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Executive of Belfast City Council, US President Obama expressed his gratitude after his recent visit: “Michelle and I thank you for all that you did to make our visit to Belfast a success. Your help was instrumental to our trip and much appreciated. Again, we are grateful for your gracious assistance and wish you all the best.”
And just when you think it can`t get any better, it did. For the first time ever, Belfast Waterfront acted as a registration centre for over 7,000 athletes, contractors and staff registering for the 2013 World Police and Fire Games (WPFG). This was a major coup for both the venue and the capital, as Belfast was the first UK city and only third European city in the Games` 28 year history to host the third largest international multi-sport event in the world.
