Belfast Waterfront celebrates a historic year

2013 will go down in Belfast Waterfront’s history not just as a successful year, but as historic.
The award winning venue celebrated a number of ‘firsts’ including welcoming US President Barack Obama and the First Family to Northern Ireland ahead of the G8 Summit.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Executive of Belfast City Council, US President Obama expressed his gratitude after his recent visit: “Michelle and I thank you for all that you did to make our visit to Belfast a success. Your help was instrumental to our trip and much appreciated. Again, we are grateful for your gracious assistance and wish you all the best.”

And just when you think it can`t get any better, it did. For the first time ever, Belfast Waterfront acted as a registration centre for over 7,000 athletes, contractors and staff registering for the 2013 World Police and Fire Games (WPFG). This was a major coup for both the venue and the capital, as Belfast was the first UK city and only third European city in the Games` 28 year history to host the third largest international multi-sport event in the world.

Delivering excellent customer service has always been a priority for the venue. Behind the scenes, the Waterfront team worked tirelessly to meet the unique requirements of over 320 conferences and events which welcomed over 217,000 people to the venue. Having a diverse client portfolio comprising multinational companies, associations, academic institutions and charities endorses the venue’s flexibility and breadth of expertise. From hosting a small meeting of 10 individuals to large–scale conferences and exhibitions for 2,000+ delegates, Belfast Waterfront offers endless possibilities for event organisers.

Named one of three runners-up in the 2012 AIPC Apex Award for the World’s Best Convention Centre, Belfast Waterfront prides itself on providing premium customer service levels resulting in a strong customer loyalty and high level of repeat business.

Deborah Rowlanes, Events Co-ordinator for Royal College of Anaesthetists explains “There are several reasons why we return each year: central location and accommodation close by, cost to hire, really helpful, accommodating and supportive staff and great facilities for exactly what we need.”

Jennifer Patterson, Revenue and Business Generation Manager at Belfast Waterfront Conference Centre, comments “2013 was an exceptionally strong year in terms of high-profile events, delegate numbers and repeat business. And next year promises to be just as exciting with 2014 Giro d`Italia cycling into town. It goes without saying that we owe our success to the Waterfront team for their dedication and professionalism. Our levels of repeat business are testament to their exceptionally high level of customer service. We would like to thank all our clients for their continued support and look forward to seeing them in the near future to discuss our planned £30 million expansion programme.”
