Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust, a member of the Meet Telford & Shropshire Convention Bureau, has been presented a Gold Award in the Green Tourism Business Scheme in recognition of the sustainable way that it manages its ten museums across its historic site – making it the ideal venue for ‘green’ events.
Anna Brennand, Chief Executive at Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust, said: “Working in such a beautiful and historically-important part of the world, the staff, volunteers and Trustees are passionate about ensuring that we operate in an environmentally-sensitive fashion. Over the last six years we have worked hard to evolve the way that we operate, to ensure that we reduce our carbon footprint wherever we’re able and we are delighted that all our efforts have been recognised with this Gold Award from the Green Tourism Business Scheme.”
Judges from this leading sustainable tourism scheme were particularly impressed by the Trust’s excellent practices in carbon reduction management and partnership working in the areas of recycling, traffic movement reduction and caring for local wildlife. This recognition will help further provide event organisers with the confidence that the venue meets the highest green tourism standards, from the sourcing of local produce for its catering offer to its own internal recycling processes.
Sarah Bird, Business Tourism Manager at Meet Telford & Shropshire, added: “It’s fantastic to see the Trust recognised for its dedication to the environment and its continued commitment to preserving such an important historical site for the benefit of both the local community and visiting delegates.
“The Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust has an incredibly diverse and unique range of venues available, from the authentic Blists Hill Victorian Town to the awe-inspiring Enginuity centre at Coalbrookdale. Once named as ‘the most extraordinary district in the world’ by historical writer Charles Hulbert, the Gorge is the perfect location to host an unforgettable event or conference for 10 to 300 delegates, with venues to suit all occasions.”
