Still seeking the perfect Christmas gift for the petrolhead in your life? Perhaps you’ve tried the traditional track days but now want something a little more white-knuckle. Well look no further: Lapland Ice Driving offers the ultimate adrenaline rush in a winter wonderland setting just 80km from the Arctic Circle, ensuring an unforgettable post-festive season getaway.

Now entering its ninth year, the centre has forged a reputation as the world's premier ice driving facility thanks to GPS-mapped recreations of the Silverstone, Nürburgring and Paul Ricard grand prix circuits. Indeed, the opportunity to test high-speed machinery on these iconic tracks is unique to the 750-acre site, which is located near the picturesque village of Arjeplog.

Lapland Ice Driving's credentials are further enhanced by an incredible selection of vehicles that will please even the most discerning of car fanatic. They include high-powered machinery from Porsche, Lamborghini and Corvette, all of which are modified to tackle the uniquely challenging conditions. The 2014 fleet has been further bolstered by five more supercars, including the Porsche 991 GT3, Maserati GranTurismo Sport and Lanica Delta Integrale.

To ensure the best experience possible, the centre calls upon a team of expert instructors who lead attendees through a total of 250km of track-time per day.

And Lapland Ice Driving can claim a unique status in the world of motorsport: the facility is virtually risk-free. Its circuits are surrounded by banks of soft snow, meaning any car that leaves their confines will be gently and safely slowed.

Four-time FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) title-winner Yvan Muller acts as official ambassador for the centre and is available for instruction duties by special arrangement. Muller's endorsement is particularly significant: he knows a thing or two about ice driving, having claimed the French national crown an incredible 10 times.

“When you arrive it's a fantastic sight, with the frozen lakes and the circuits laid out on them,” Muller says of the centre. “It's simply stunning and always great just to be there. To be able to drive flat-out with complete safety... what more could you ask? I go back every winter for at least a week.”

But Lapland isn't solely about ice driving. The centre offers a wide variety of activities for those not testing their mettle behind the wheel, including dog-sledding, skiing and tours of the stunning local nature reserves.

And for those more inclined to indoor activities, the luxury lodge should provide suitably comfortable surrounds, while a spa experience is also available for the ultimate in Arctic relaxation.

That all adds up to an incredible post-Christmas getaway. Set among one of the most stunning landscapes on earth and posing a unique sporting challenge, Lapland Ice Driving is the destination of choice for those who crave high-octane adventure.
