VisitYork4meetings builds on success with announcement of York Minster to Westminster 2014

VisitYork4Meetings has announced plans to host its second annual York-in-London showcase, York Minster to Westminster 2014, on Wednesday 5 March 2014.
It is anticipated that around 20 York venues will exhibit at the event which will take place at the Houses of Parliament and The Queen Elizabeth 11 Conference Centre, Westminster. The guest list will include pre-qualified organisers from the meetings, incentive, conference and events industries as well as conference booking agents. VisitYork4Meetings – the business tourism arm of Visit York – will also work with Visit England to attract international buyers.

The inaugural York Minster to Westminster in March this year was a huge success, with VisitYork4Meetings securing the Liberal Democrats Spring Conference in 2014. It is the first time in the party’s history that it has held its annual conference in York and it is expected that around 1400 delegates will be in the city for the three-day event, contributing over £600,000 to the local economy.

Laura Freer, Marketing Manager (Business Tourism) for VisitYork4Meetings, said: “Promoting York as a great business destination to a national and international audience is a key part of VisitYork4Meetings’ business tourism strategy; we know that buyers don’t always have the time to visit York. That’s why we are taking York to them and following the success of the first York Minster to Westminster event and the fantastic feedback we received from event buyers, we are keen to host a similar event in 2014.

“Next year’s York Minster to Westminster is in the same successful format, offering delegates both a one-to-one appointments with York venues with free time to maximize networking opportunities.”

York Minster to Westminster will again receive strong cross-party support from York MPs, with Hugh Bayley (Labour) and Julian Sturdy (Conservative) MP sponsoring the event in the Houses. Rail operator East Coast continues to work in partnership with VisitYork4Meetings.

The showcase will include afternoon tea for delegates at the Houses of Parliament plus a show-round, followed by workshops and buyer appointments with York venues at The Queen Elizabeth 11 Conference Centre.
