Minister welcomes BVEP delegation to Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland Minister and Local Party representative for Derry-Londonderry, Mark Durkan MLA, joined representatives of the Business Visits & Events Partnership (BVEP) last week as part of a high profile welcome, from the destination, to the events industry..

The partnership was hosted by the Northern Ireland Tourist Board (NITB) and the delegation was given exclusive access and tours of some of the key new event spaces opening up in the destination, including The Titanic Quarter in Belfast, and a walking tour of Derry-Londonderry, where Mr Durkan joined the delegation.

"Everyone in the partnership was overwhelmed by the warmth and hospitality of the people we met during our stay in Northern Ireland," commented Chris Skeith, Vice Chair of the BVEP. "This is a destination that really gets business tourism; it has an amazing sell and a brilliant product bought to life by passionate people. For a senior Minister such as Mark to join us was both an honour and a sign of how important this industry is to the destination."

"Business tourism is a key area for the NITB, we have an outstanding events product here, through our destinations, major venues, our heritage and our contemporary developments,” commented Willie Lougheed, NITB Business-to-Business Manager. “Most of all though we have a population that provides a warm welcome to visitors and that appreciate the value of major events."

Mr Durkan officially welcomed and thanked the BVEP delegation for taking the time to visit Derry-Londonderry in a formal dinner in the city.
