With accommodation at the Corinthia Palace, and various activities organised throughout Malta and Gozo over four days, the awards ceremony took place on Saturday 5th October at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, honoring those companies voted as ‘best in their field’ by thousands of globe-trotting readers of The Times, The Sunday Times and The Sunday Times Travel magazine, in a survey run over the past three months.
For the first time ever, these influential publications have come together on the definitive travel awards, to reward the best in the industry across countries, airlines, cities, hotels, tour operators and cruises. Such categories include Best European country, Best Short Haul Airline, Best General Tour Operator and Best Travel website.
Alex Incorvaja, Director UK & Ireland of the Malta Tourism Authority said: “It is a privilege to be associated with leading titles such as The Times, The Sunday Times and The Sunday Times Travel Magazine and to host their Travel Awards in Malta. It puts Malta on an aspirational platform and will reach out to a demographic that does not necessarily have Malta on its radar as an ideal holiday destination. We also have the opportunity to showcase the destination to News UK’s key clients, ranging from leading tour operators and travel agents to airlines and cruise line companies.
James Hawker, Head of Category Development, News UK Commercial, commented: “The launch of our first travel awards marks the beginning of a new commercial product for News UK. This will give brands and agencies a new channel to reach engaged, affluent audiences with specific sector interest. “It’s our ambition that these awards will soon become the largest consumer travel survey in the UK.”
