Momad Metropolis welcomes more than 17,000 trade buyers to its first event

The first staging of MOMAD METRÓPOLIS, the International Fashion Trade Fair that took place from 6th to 8th September at Feria de Madrid, achieved some favourable results.

The unveiling of this new multi-sector fashion event aimed at professionals, whose exhibition is the result of combining SIMM, the Madrid International Fashion Fair, with Modacalzado+Iberpiel, the International Footwear and Leather Goods Trade Fair, fulfilled the organiser's objective of bringing clothing, footwear and accessory companies together under the same roof, effectively shaping the most important fashion showcase on the Iberian Peninsula.

In total, over a period of three days the trade fair welcomed some 17,423 buyers. Of this number, 11% attended the event from 70 different countries. Portugal, Italy, France, Russia, Mexico and Poland were the countries that sent the largest numbers of trade buyers to MOMAD.

From Spain itself, Andalusia, Galicia, Castile-Leon, Catalonia, Madrid, the Valencian Region, Castile-La Mancha and the Basque Country were the regions that sent the largest numbers of buyers to the event.    

Within an exhibition area measuring 16,000 square metres  (58% corresponded to clothing and 42% to footwear and accessories), Momad Metropolis brought together some 1,300 Spanish and foreign clothing footwear and accessory companies with their latest ideas and collections for next Spring/Summer 2014 and, under the heading of immediate delivery  ready-to-wear fashion, their collections for Autumn/Winter 2013.The exhibition itself was structured around market segment, style and moment of use, based on three wide-ranging sections: METRO, COSMO and READY.

The new event featured the participation of relevant companies within the textile sector such as Vilagallo, Steilmann, Strena, Elisa Cavaletti, Viriato, El Armario de Lulú, Smash!, Veneno en la Piel, Rene Derhy, Maria Coca, Noa, Lollipops, Best Mountain, Mamatayoe, Almatrichi, Riverside, Laga or Montoto; a number of large Footwear firms such as Pons Quintana, Pertini, Desigual, Chie Mihara, Mayoral, Coolway, Lola Cruz, Ted Baker, Toni Pons, Pepe Castell, Vidorreta, Mustang, Gioseppo or Victoria, and Accessories companies such as Superchería, Nusarelos, Idotara, Drap, Puntotres or Volum Bags.

The new trade show also aroused the interest of a number of leading companies of international renown, who chose MOMAD as the ideal setting in which to market their collections. This is the case of the Danish Group, Bestseller, that attended the trade fair with its nine brandes –Vero Moda, Jack&Jones, Only, Outfitters Nation, Name It, Selected, Vila, Pieces and Mamalicious- or the Italian firm, Luisa Spagnoli.

The entire trade showcase created for the first staging of Momad Metropolis was complemented by the IFEMA Fashion Showrooms, which presented the ideas of 104 Spanish and foreign brands from the medium-high segment of the market. The Showrooms were located in Hall 14.1, the same venue that habitually hosts the staging of Madrid Fashion Week. Amongst the prestigious names that took part in this area, we might highlight brands such as Cinzia Rocca, Cristina Gavioli, Luisa Cerano, Roccobarocco, Save the Queen and Maria Grazia Severi, amongst others.

The first staging of Momad Metropolis presented a wide-ranging programme of activities, all of which enjoyed considerable success in terms of public attendance and participation. The conferences, roundtables and presentations that made up the Momad Retail Forum all witnessed high levels of attendance, especially those sessions that tackled questions relating to point-of-sale technology, the latest trends, the current situation and future of points of sale and the importance of the social media within the fashion industry.

In addition, the trade show hosted the staging of three exhibitions: "In the Footsteps of the Stars", organised by the Elda Footwear Museum; "The Fashion Future Is Coming Now!", organised by the Higher Centre for Fashion and Design of Madrid; and the ANDE Forum Exhibition, organised by the Association of New and Young Designers. We might also mention the Golden Pencil Exhibition. The trade show also staged its "Best Stand Image" Competition, in recognition of the efforts of companies and bodies taking part at MOMAD. A jury evaluated all of the stands at the trade show and assessed their suitability regarding the marketing needs of each product and degree of identification with the image and collection presented. The winning stand was presented by the firm, Strena. For its part, the #ilovemylook Competition selected two trade visitors whose image stood out for its originality, daring and good taste. Photographs of the competing looks were exhibited at the trade fair itself and disseminated via the social media. The winning man and woman will receive clothing products from the companies, Strena (women) and Selected (men), as well as a pair of shoes from the companies, Hispanitas (women) and Victoria (men).
