A warm welcome awaits Labour Party Conference delegates in Brighton

Brighton & Hove is gearing up for an influx of 8,000 additional visitors due to descend on the city for the Labour Party’s national annual conference from 22-25 September 2013.  Conference business contributes significantly to Brighton’s local economy and the Labour Party’s 4 day event alone is expected to bring benefits of up to £15m for local retailers, hotels and restaurants.

The VisitBrighton Convention Bureau has worked with Labour Party event organisers to bring the conference to Brighton which was last held in the city in 2009.

The 5,000 capacity Brighton Centre located on the city’s seafront will host the conference with the adjacent Hilton Metropole as the main headquarters hotel.  Hoteliers are reporting strong advanced bookings and as a result of other significant events, including the food & drink, Japan and Digital festivals, are anticipating a busy start to the Autumn season.

Julia Gallagher, manager, VisitBrighton Convention Bureau, says: “We put substantial effort and resources into attracting conferences and keeping them. The Labour Party Conference is one of our big shop window events, with lots of media coverage and future customers potentially looking in.

“Many of our flagship venues have benefitted from comprehensive refurbishment programmes this year and this investment provides significant benefit to conference organisers and delegates.

“Having a strong programme of cultural events and festivals also helps to keep the city busy year-round and makes us an attractive proposition for both business and leisure visitors.  We’re looking forward to giving everyone involved with the Labour Party Conference a warm Brighton welcome and wish them all an enjoyable stay.”
