Central America to host Adventure Racing World Championship

Costa Rica's status as one of the world's best established destinations for adventure sports granted its selection as the host of this year's Adventure Racing World Championship, which will take place from 29 November to 12 December.

Nearly 80 teams from around the world will compete in Costa Rica, in a non-stop challenge that will see them cover a route of 815 kilometres from coast to coast and from north to south of the country. The host country has designed an exciting and challenging itinerary that will demand the highest effort from the competing teams.

The competition will consist of 140 hours of non-stop challenges in disciplines including trekking, mountain biking, kayaking, rafting, abseiling, coasteering, orienteering and inner tubing.

The Costa Rica event is the culmination of the Adventure Racing World Series, the world's largest adventure sports tournament, with participants from the five continents. According to Ireth Rodriguez, Marketing Director of the Costa Rica Tourist Board, Costa Rica has supported the selection process for the tournament for the last few years, culminating in the nomination of the country as host of this year's Championship.

Costa Rica is an ideal destination for adventure tourism. The country's focus on sustainable tourism development allows visitors to enjoy top quality facilities while preserving Costa Rica's outstanding natural resources.
