The Mere Golf Resort and Spa

Michael Vaughan and David Lloyd lead the charity pack at The Sportsman’s Classic golf tournament to raise funds for The Christie Hospital and The Harold Riley Foundation

The Mere Golf Resort and Spa unveils a new corporate charity golfing event for the North West. The Mere is embarking on a brand new charity golfing event the Sportsman’s Golf Classic, which will take place on 3rd October 2013 in support of The Christie Hospital and The Harold Riley Foundation. The exclusive event is being headlined by David Lloyd and Michael Vaughan, two leading sportsmen in their field, who will be part of the golf teams as well as presenting during the event’s gala dinner in the evening.

The golf day is taking place in association with International Sports Management, Galvin Green, Srixon Sports Europe and Vpar Scoring Systems. This event represents another golfing highlight for The Mere which has attracted some of the region’s leading sporting figures, including Liverpool FC Captain Steven Gerrard, who hosted his first UK charity golf day at The Mere for his charity The Steven Gerrard Foundation.

Following a day on the golf course, there is a full evening programme which will include a presentation from the Golf Day with Captain, Michael Vaughan and David Lloyd, as well as a charity auction which they will run with a range of prizes on offer, donated by Srixon Sports Europe, Galvin Green, The Mere and other sources. The Sportsman’s Golf Classic event is open to all and includes a range of different corporate hospitality packages, including the full team based golf and dinner event as well as dinner only options.

“Our golf pedigree is giving us the opportunity to introduce new golfing experiences and attract leading sporting figures to our resort. We’re excited to announce the Sportsman’s Golf Classic because it brings together the best of our skills – offering members and guests an excellent day on our championship golf course followed by the best hospitality here in the North West. We continue to get extremely positive feedback about the reasons why The Mere is their choice of resort for playing golf and this exclusive event will continue to open this up to as wide an audience as possible,” commented Joe Gates, Golf Operations Manager at The Mere Golf Resort & Spa.

Mark Boler, co-owner and founder of The Mere Golf Resort & Spa: “It’s important to us that we remain focused on innovating with the new initiatives to delight guests and members and ensure we retain and grow our loyal following. We’re delighted to be welcoming David Lloyd and Michael Vaughan to host the event, which is a testament to our long-standing relationship between us, the International Sports Management and these sports personalities directly. We’re confident that their involvement will help to attract a fantastic attendance to this exclusive event. Being able to combine this whilst supporting some of our charities of choice is something which is close to my heart.”

The resort is expanding its golf service and guest offering, now boasting its own concierge service and tailored play packages. It has introduced a range of golfing packages for members, starting from only £4 per day. Members have also created a new Twitter hashtag #truecourse giving golfers the opportunity to promote why they choose The Mere as their golf course of choice.
