Bath Tourism Plus ‘oli’vers support to local businesses

Bath’s local businesses are set to benefit when visitors, who book their accommodation through the VisitBath website will be rewarded with a special Welcome Pack from Bath Tourism Plus (BTP). The Pack, containing Bath’s very own local currency the Bath Oliver, will be offered to staying visitors which will support local businesses and retain spend in the community.

The Bath Oliver, a coupon that offers discounts at participating businesses across the city for residents, visitors and businesses, is the first true local money to be developed in the UK with the aim to reduce the reliance on Sterling and retain more of the value of local work and enterprise within the local community.

The new Welcome Pack will be available to collect from Bath’s Visitor Information Centre (VIC) once a confirmed booking has been made. The Pack will also offer a host of other benefits including discounts in the VIC shop which sells locally sourced produce and a fast track entry into the Roman Baths.

Created to generate more bookings via, the recent changes to the website will also support local accommodation providers. As BTP charges a much smaller percentage of commission than other online travel agents such as Expedia, etc. this allows BTP’s accommodation partners to retain more of the profit margin on each booking taken through the website.

Nick Brooks-Sykes, Chief Executive of Bath Tourism Plus commented: “This is a ‘win-win’ story for both visitors and the businesses of Bath. We are seeking to reduce commission rates that accommodation members may otherwise have paid to other online agencies and the income raised will then be re-invested in marketing the city. At the same time, we are encouraging visitors to use Bath Olivers, which in turn supports local, independent businesses. I hope this will be a great success.”
