On Monday 15 July 2013, Spike Reid from the Foundling Museum, and previously the Royal Geographical Society, will cycle 80 miles around London visiting all the UVL members, to raise money for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity which supports the work of The Royal Marsden.
The distance is the same as cycling from London to Southampton.
Spike’s journey begins at Hampton Court Palace at 5am and takes in west London UVL members such as Twickenham Stadium, Syon Park and Kew Bridge Steam Museum.
The route will then continue and incorporate south west London venues like Fulham Palace, Kensington venues such as the Royal Geographical Society and venues in and around Regents Park.
After cycling to over 35 venues located in central London, Spike will visit the Victoria area of the city, before cycling to the South Bank, Greenwich, Dulwich and free-wheeling across the finish line at Trinity House in the City of London.
UVL members will be supporting Spike along the way, by providing him with souvenirs and mementoes as he makes a stop at their venue.
Moya Maxwell, Head of Commercial Programming at the Royal Opera House and Chairman of UVL, comments: “This is a brave and ambitious challenge Spike will be completing and we are excited to support him in this great cause. It is also a wonderful way of highlighting just how many UVL members there are in London - and how much variety exists across the consortium.”
