LeWeb chose Central Hall Westminster as their venue of choice for the second year right in the centre of Europe’s financial hub. The venue’s iconic location opposite Westminster Abbey, sheer size and flexibility offered provided by 22 event spaces and impressive contrast – 100 year old venue hosting modern tech conference – made it an easy choice.
The conference spread across all of Central Hall’s 22 event spaces, which were transformed into demo-zones, workshop areas, product showcases and a global ‘start-up competition’ plus a large exhibition. The main plenary session, staged in the Great Hall, featured a 14 meter wide stage set, which fronted a breath-taking backdrop of the 100 year old Baroque-Edwardian auditorium with Europe’s largest domed ceiling.
Delegates from 46 countries attended onsite, while real-time coverage from CNN and reporting from Financial Times, Guardian the BBC and hundreds of bloggers made the event go viral with 29,000 posts on websites, blogs and social networks. The most devices used at any one time was a staggering 1,175. With Central Hall’s recent development to open access of its fast-speed Wi-Fi for free to all, the venue was ready to connect to the world.
The event brought together international start-ups, entrepreneurs, venture-capitalists and included thought leaders from Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Airbnb and Spotify as well as celebrity speakers like Lily Cole talking about her social giving network.
“Having Le Web London located in such a grandiose place, right opposite the Westminster Abbey makes everybody feel like they’re part of something special”, said Franz Caduc, Managing Director of Le Web.
