Amsterdam RAI publishes fifth sustainability report

Streamlined CSR policy reaps rewards and awards

Corporate social responsibility has had a prominent place within the company since 2008 and ‘the RAI achieves sustainable results’ has become one of its core values. In 2012 virtually the entire RAI complex was fitted with energy-saving lighting and the Amsterdam RAI’s sustainability policy won international awards from two leading trade associations. Details on these achievements and much more besides are contained in the 2012 Sustainability Report.

Corporate social responsibility was given a prominent place at Amsterdam RAI in 2008. This decision was subsequently strengthened by refining one of the company’s core values to ‘the RAI achieves sustainable results.’ In its latest sustainability report, Amsterdam RAI looks back on the past five years and sets the agenda for the future.

Amsterdam RAI has gone through a major development in the field of sustainability over recent years. Many successes were celebrated, international awards and certificates obtained and bottlenecks removed, while the RAI learned that broad support within the company is an absolute prerequisite for success.

Amsterdam RAI listens
The theme of this sustainability report is ‘the RAI listens.’ Based on the seven pillars on which Amsterdam RAI bases its activities (energy & climate, mobility, water, waste, employees, procurement and community involvement), an extensive dialogue was held with representatives from various Amsterdam RAI stakeholder groups. By listening to its customers, partners, suppliers and neighbours, Amsterdam RAI ensures that it maintains an overview of the issues that are most relevant to its stakeholders.

The sustainability report also made an explicit effort to look to the future. Amsterdam RAI aims to continue working on its sustainability objectives. “We are convinced that a good CSR policy adds value and contributes to the success, commercial and otherwise, of companies,” Amsterdam RAI General Manager Hans Bakker underlines. “The RAI aims to be one of the most prominent leaders in Europe in the conference and events industry in the field of sustainability over the next five years (2013 - 2017). This is an ambitious goal in a world and industry where the focus on sustainability is expanding exponentially. The many initiatives within the RAI and, in particular, the commitment and motivation of its employees to achieve sustainable results, strengthen our belief that Amsterdam RAI will continue to play a defining role in the exhibition and convention industry in the coming years.”

The renowned trade associations UFI (Global Association of the Exhibition Industry) and HSMAI (Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International) both recognised the sustainability policies of Amsterdam RAI with international awards in 2012. This confirms that Amsterdam RAI has thoroughly embedded its deployed CSR policy and CSR objectives within the company and operational processes.

The sustainability report was made in collaboration with BECO Group BV and prepared in accordance with the guidelines of the GRI B (Global Reporting Initiative).
