New airport delivers flight boost to Donnafugata

The fortunes of Donnafugata Golf Resort & Spa are set to soar this year with European visitors being offered increased access to the deluxe Sicilian venue following the opening of the new Comiso Airport.
From August, low cost carrier Ryanair will launch the first of its three new routes into Comiso airport, which is located just 20 minutes away from the award-winning five-star resort. The new airport was officially opened on May 30, making it an attractive alternative due to the reduced travel time and transfer costs.

Ryanair will initially operate a total of ten flights per week from the three airports – London Stansted, Rome Ciampino and Brussels Charleroi – with fares starting from just €30.99.

The new services, which are currently on sale until March 2014, are forecast to deliver more than 150,000 passengers per year into the region, with more routes and airlines anticipated to follow in the near future.

Pablo Rey Rodriguez, general manager at Donnafugata Golf Resort & Spa, said: “The opening of the airport has been anticipated for a long time and is wonderful news for Sicily, our region and the resort. “Not only will the new routes offer improved access to Donnafugata for a much wider audience across Europe throughout both the summer and winter months, but they will also give us a series of new business possibilities to explore.”

Donnafugata has enjoyed a memorable last 12 months and even better times lie ahead with the luxury Sicilian venue having booked more than 50 per cent more business from the UK market alone for 2013 than it took in the whole of last year.

The resort, which is also located 90 minutes’ drive from Catania, offers the perfect recipe for those seeking a relaxing holiday in five-star surroundings on the largest island in the Mediterranean.

Named ‘Best Golf Resort in Italy in 2012’ by Condé Nast Traveller magazine, Donnafugata boasts two 18-hole championship golf courses – the Links Course and the Gary Player-designed Parkland Course – with the latter being used to stage the 2011 Sicilian Open.

The luxurious venue lies near to the historic town of Ragusa, the cradle of Sicilian Baroque architecture, with its neighbouring towns listed among the pearls of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Modica, Scicli and Noto.

As well as two championship golf courses, Donnafugata offers a spa and wellness centre, swimming-pools and three restaurants and is the ideal destination for a holiday focused on sport and relaxation in a truly exclusive setting.
