Joburg jumps 92 places in ICCA rankings

The Joburg Tourism’s Convention Bureau team is celebrating the city’s momentous climb in the ICCA rankings, by improving its place by an astonishing 92 places since 2012!
“We’re thrilled to announce that in this year’s ICCA rankings Joburg is ranked 142nd in the world and is placed third in Africa. We were ranked at 234 last year, so this is excellent news for us,” says Phelisa Mangcu, Acting CEO, Joburg Tourism.

ICCA Rankings are announced annually by the International Congress and Convention Association, based on the number of rotating international association meetings hosted in a particular destination. ICCA now is one of the most prominent organisations in the world of international meetings. It is the only association that comprises a membership representing the main specialists in handling, transporting and accommodating international events. ICCA's network of over 950 suppliers to the international meetings industry spans the globe, with members in 88 countries.

“Joburg’s dramatic improvement in its ICCA rankings is thanks to a collaborative effort with our industry partners, peers and stakeholders,” says Mangcu. “Last year our Convention Bureau embarked on an intensive consultation with the industry during the course of refining our strategy related to hosting business events in Joburg. This has resulted in better understanding, collaboration and sharing of information crucial to the ranking process. So a big thank you to all involved, it’s onwards and upward from here on!”
