São Paulo Convention & Visitors Bureau stages exclusive event with international leaders in the industryIn yet another pioneering initiative, São Paulo Convention & Visitors Bureau (SPCVB) invited some 60 associated companies and entities to an exclusive meeting with leaders of the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), the world benchmark for the Events, Congress and Convention industry.
The event was held on the morning of Thursday, April 25, in the SPCVB Auditorium, having been preceded by a meeting of members of the Brazilian ICCA Committee, chaired by Ney Uberto Neves and with the participation of Pablo Sismanián, Chairman of the Latin American Chapter of ICCA.
Participants enjoyed a talk by Martin Sirk, ICCA CEO, on marketing, congress promotion, and pathways to competitiveness in associative events. Sirk was accompanied by the Association's president, Arnaldo Nardone, who has always urged Brazil's ICCA members to participate more intensely and exploit their representation to leverage the events industry.
“ICCA shared excellent information with us about markets and showed us how some cities strive not only to feature in the rankings of international events but also how they use the tools available in the entity to capture events,” commented Toni Sando, executive president of SPCVB.
Sirk stated that “a destination's growth is directly linked to investments in infrastructure, to intense liaison between local players and to the full alignment of private enterprise with the public authorities”. For Sando, “a very promising future lies ahead of us, and the secret of a destination's success has above all to do with its team of able and aligned professionals, which in our case includes SPTuris, Embratur and our network of over 600 associates”.
“Cooperation between cities is another key factor. We took advantage of WTM Latin America to meet with the Paraná state SEBRAE and Convention Bureaus, as well as the representatives of the State of Pará. In this ICCA meeting, we were able to promote a far-reaching exchange of experiences with Embratur director Marco Lomanto, and SPTuris director Luciane Leite as well as their respective teams, and with the convention bureaux of Rio de Janeiro, Joinville and Porto Alegre,” he added.
