Cape Town’s Steenberg winery pioneers new technology for wine enthusiastsVisitors to Steenberg winery in Cape Town’s Constantia Valley can enhance their wine-tasting experience with the use of a new app, available to download on all smartphones, iPads and tablets. This is the first winery-dedicated app to launch in South Africa, and a revolutionary concept in the country.
Steenberg’s hotel and vineyard is nestled in the Constantia Valley, a wine producing region just 20 minutes away from the heart of Cape Town. The new app brings a convenient and internationally accessible way for visitors to learn about Steenberg’s wide selection of wines, stay abreast of new wine releases and hear about upcoming events and special happenings at Steenberg via a fun and easy-to-use tool.
At the cellar door, visitors to the Steenberg Tasting Room are now able to access tasting notes and food & wine pairings right away, with an effortless click on their tablets, smart phones and other electronic devices. This provides interactive participation in the wine tasting experience, taking it to a totally new level.
The free app is readily available for download from the iTunes App Store and, for iOS, BlackBerry and Android phone users, there are convenient ways to find and download the app. Users can navigate their way to http://road.ie/steenbrgwine on their phones and download the app from there.
Among the useful features that the Steenberg app offers is up-to-date wine tasting information and hours, real time updates about Steenberg news and events, and a store locator to guide users to retail outlets closest to them that stock Steenberg wines. Stunning photographs and videos can also be downloaded.
The Constantia Valley has established a reputation for producing fine quality whites, classically styled reds and world-famous dessert wines. Steenberg holds the distinction of being the oldest farm in the picturesque valley, with a history dating back to the first wine production in 1695.
For travellers to the region, the boutique hotel at Steenberg is the perfect place for an affordable luxury holiday. The hotel boasts a daytime restaurant ‘Bistro Sixteen82’, a contemporary, fine dining restaurant ‘Catharina’s’ which offers spectacular views of False Bay & the Steenberg Mountains, a stylish new bar ‘Gorgeous’ which exclusively serves Graham Beck bubbles in honour of the hotel’s late owner, a Ginkgo Spa, an 18-hole Championship golf course and of course, the Steenberg winery.
