An ode to culinary indulgence and joie de vivre, Three-Michelin Star Chef, Andreas Caminada opens a new gourmet “nest”Yesterday marked the opening of “IGNIV by Andreas Caminada” at Grand Resort Bad Ragaz, a place dedicated to the sharing of fine food, indulgence and time.
One of the most important qualities that a chef must possess in order to consistently surprise their guests is creativity. With his new restaurant, “IGNIV by Andreas Caminada”, the star chef's creative vision will once again be put to the test, this time by a young, passionate team led by Silvio Germann, from 16th December 2015 in the former “Äbtestube”.
Caminada, who has been awarded 3 Michelin stars and 19 GaultMillau points at Schloss Schauenstein Hotel Restaurant in Fürstenau, offers a refreshingly new concept with very high-quality, authentic cuisine at his second restaurant. “It’s about enjoying life and celebrating indulgence and time – for all ages,” says Caminada. “That’s why the restaurant is also open for lunch on Sundays, a day for families,” adds Peter P. Tschirky, Chairman of the Executive Board of Grand Resort Bad Ragaz AG and the man with whom the Graubünden chef teamed up to open “IGNIV” (Rhaeto-Romanic for “nest”).
In order to ensure that guests really feel at home in the restaurant, renowned Spanish interior designer Patricia Urquiola was hired to lend the restaurant a hedonistic ambience. The restaurant was completely renovated. What has remained is the cosy fireplace in the centre of the room and the arched ceiling. The nest feeling is further emphasised through the use of the finest materials that blend harmoniously in the room, such as brass and wood, and the table arrangement, which guarantees the privacy of each of the groups.
The choice of earth tones combined with Bordeaux, burgundy and robin-egg blue creates a feeling of warmth and a pleasant, comfortable and cosy atmosphere that stimulates social interaction. In addition to the exquisite interior design, the “IGNIV” logo, designed by graphic designer Remo Caminada, also adds a touch of understated refinement. He used the simplest of design elements to create the logo: an oval and straight lines. At first glance it appears to be merely a muddle of lines and only becomes clear when one looks closely.
The focus on the pure flavour of the products themselves is another concept that makes it clear that “IGNIV” certainly bears Andreas Caminada’s signature. Although he will continue to welcome guests to his restaurant at Schauenstein Schloss Restaurant Hotel, those who are familiar with the Graubünden chef will recognise the choreographed cooperation between kitchen and service staff in Bad Ragaz. Unlike at Schloss Schauenstein, at “IGNIV” guests put together their own menu based on the “sharing dishes” concept. Alongside the à la carte menu, the new concept also offers a 3- or 4-course sharing menu created by Silvio Germann (chef de cuisine) and his team. The young chef from Lucerne spent a number of years working in Caminada’s three-starred kitchen at Schloss Schauenstein and was involved in the creation and realisation of the new gastronomic concept from the start. The culinary creations will be served by Francesco Benvenuto (chef de service and sommelier) and his team in bowls and on platters. The sommelier proved his experience and expertise during his time working at the former “Äbtestube”.
