Energy Revolution, fronted by Powerful Thinking’s Chris Johnson, officially launches this February and with involvement from more than ten festivals, aims to fund a one megawatt festival wind turbine within the next five years. Festivals involved in the initiative include Bestival, Camp Bestival, Boomtown, Secret Garden Party, Wilderness, Shambala Festival and Love Saves The Day.
Chris will be joined on stage by Ben Robinson, Kendal Calling; Ollie Stroud, Secret Garden Party; Tim Harvey, MAMA & Company and Chris Rutherford, Boomtown for this penultimate Access Session of the Show, from 12noon on Thursday 19th February.
The Energy Revolution is a registered festival charity working towards an energy efficient, low carbon and cost-effective future for festivals. It will crowd source donations from car pass buyers to account for their travel emissions, and invest in clean energy to tackle climate change and create a sustainable future for everyone.
“Audience travel makes up around 70% of a festival’s carbon footprint. As a festival community of over 200 summer festivals and two million festivalgoers, this unprecedented project could account for millions of miles of travel, and turn a problem into a solution – renewable energy is the best chance we have to reduce global emissions to safe levels,” said Johnson.
Donations will go directly towards producing clean and renewable energy forever, replacing dirty fossil fuels with wind and solar power. Participating festivals are also tackling their energy by using renewables where possible, reducing energy consumption, and investing directly into renewable energy projects.
The Event Production Show is co-located with International Confex and takes place at Olympia, London, 18th – 19th February 2015.
