PromPerú celebrates successful World Travel Market 2014

PromPerú, the official tourism board for Peru, travelled to London to exhibit at World Travel Market (WTM) from 3rd to 6th November 2014 at the ExCel Exhibition Centre. The delegation included Jaime Cardenas, Director of Trade & Investment at the Peruvian Embassy in London as well as Elisabeth Hakim, UK & North American Markets Coordinator and Mirna Ipanaqué, UK Market Specialist from PromPerú’s head office, who were on hand to answer questions on the country as a leading tourism destination and to launch a ‘Find Paddington Bear at WTM’ social media competition.

To celebrate the launch of the forthcoming film Paddington, which opens in UK cinemas on 28th November 2014, PromPerú held a social media competition inviting agents to ‘Find Paddington Bear at WTM’ and post a photo of Paddington using the hashtag ‘#PeruPaddingtonWTM’ which received 54,977 impressions and reached an estimated 30,512 twitter accounts.

The competition winners took home goodies including Peruvian chocolate and coffee. Paddington, from the producer of Harry Potter, is set to be a family favourite and is based on the famous bear’s adventures following his arrival into London Paddington station from ‘deepest darkest Peru’.   

The PromPerú team were joined by 38 tourism partners exhibiting on the Peru stand and below is just a few of the key destination news stories from those partners that were communicated during WTM:  

Amazonas-Explorer guide named the Wanderlust ‘World Guide of the Year’ award 

Efrain Valles, Amazonas-Explorer guide, was selected as the World Guide of the Year 2014 at the annual Wanderlust magazine awards. The awards, held in London, were judged by an eminent panel including author Bill Bryson and Wanderlust editor-in-chief Lynn Hughes. In other news, Amazonas Explorer will be offering a brand new tour for 2015, the nine-day Ultimate Inca Trail package, as well as now offering travellers the option of journeying to Machu Picchu via bike, raft and foot on its re-designed nine-day Machu Picchu multi-sport trip.  

Cajamarca Travel team part of new world record for birding
Along with an expert team from the University of the State of Louisiana Cajamarca Travel has set a new World Birding Record at the North Amazonian Birding Rally in Peru. The new record for the highest number of species spotted in 24 hours was achieved on Tuesday 14th October 2014, with 354 species being recorded in the Alto Mayo valley, San Martin. The previous record was held by Terry Stevenson with 342 species observed in Kenya on 30th November 1986. The Tour Operator Cajamarca Travel and its staff provided the necessary technical and logistical support to break the world record. Over the years Cajamarca Travel has contributed to highlighting Peru as a world-class birdwatching destination.  

Machete Tours introduces new health, mind and body programme
Machete Tours has launched a new twelve-day balance and health progamme, The Art of Training – Physical and Mental Renewal in Peru. Partnering with a UK-based life planning company, The Art of Training, the programme will focus on activities to increase fitness and refine exercises methods.

Guests will enjoy daily training sessions with a professional British personal trainer, mediation sessions and nutritional assistance. The tour, which includes cultural excursions and a private two-day Machu Picchu tour a two-day Puno and Titicaca Lake tour with a boat excursion to Amantani and the Uros Islands is priced £3,950 per person based on double room occupancy.  

PeruRail awarded two TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence

Explorandes to celebrate 40 years in the business in 2015 with special anniversary packages
