Nature and activity businesses to sign up for new dedicated section of VisitScotland expo 2017Scottish businesses that specialise in everything from walking tours to white water rafting are being urged to share their products with the world.
VisitScotland expo, which is coming to Glasgow next spring, will see around 600 tour operators from around the globe descend on the SECC, looking to add to their Scottish holiday itineraries for the year ahead.
More than 200 tourism businesses from every corner of Scotland are set to exhibit at the country’s biggest travel trade event on 26-27 April 2017.
For the first time in VisitScotland expo’s 38-year history, there will be an aisle dedicated exclusively to activity and nature-based businesses, allowing them to showcase in one area the very best outdoor experiences Scotland has to offer.
According to the latest VisitScotland research, adventure tourism is worth £759m to the Scottish economy.
The national tourism organisation has introduced the dedicated aisle at expo as a result of buyer feedback. As well as providing a focal point for tour operators to learn about the wealth of Scotland’s outdoor experiences, it is also hoped that it will attract generalist operators which are keen to develop their current programmes with more activities, as well as develop new tours.
Ahead of VisitScotland expo 2017, VisitScotland will organise a special “Great Outdoors” familiarisation (fam) trip to showcase the very best of Scotland’s outdoor activities.
VisitScotland is looking for businesses that offer activities such as walking, climbing, cycling, kayaking and rafting, wildlife and nature watching and snow sports to sign up and share their product with the world at expo.
Malcolm Roughead, Chief Executive of VisitScotland, said: “VisitScotland supports the Scottish tourism industry in its aspirations to internationalise and to attract more business and income from international markets. Scotland’s breath-taking natural scenery makes it the perfect setting for enjoying a wide range of outdoor activities, from nature trails and hiking to white water rafting and even bungee jumping.
“Our new dedicated Nature and Activities aisle at VisitScotland expo 2017 is a tremendous platform for tourism businesses throughout Scotland to meet tour operators from around the globe under one roof, and I would urge outdoor tourism businesses to get in touch and make the most of this brilliant opportunity.”
Ben Mardall, Chair of Wild Scotland, said: “Scotland is a place of outstanding natural beauty. With our stunning landscapes, unique wildlife and where you can find adventure’s just a stone’s throw from the main cities. Scotland is a perfect outdoor playground just waiting to be explored. Nowhere else in Europe offers this unique combination, with passionate, professional guides standing by to help everyone discover their adventure.
“Having a dedicated nature and activities aisle is an excellent opportunity for the world to see what Scotland has to offer. We encourage all businesses to grab the chance to be face-to-face with tour operators from around the globe.”
