The visitor attraction, which is organised by ITV, in partnership with Continuum Attractions will run at The SECC until 1st January 2017.
It will feature an impressive, purpose built showdome – which is roughly the size of half a football pitch and will be situated on the west end of the SECC’s campus. This will house authentic sets from the Rovers to Roy’s Rolls, the Kabin to the cobbles and include a virtual reality ‘welcome’ by Alison King (played Carla Connor), offering visitors the chance to see Coronation Street as it’s never been seen before.
Dan Thurlow, Director, Exhibition Sales at The SECC explained; “We are delighted that ITV has chosen us as the platform for them to bring this unique live experience to a Scottish audience. It is a great brand to be aligned with, a really unique event and with an impressive presence that demonstrates the varied type and scale of events we can help deliver for our clients.”
Chief Executive for Continuum Attractions, Juliana Delaney, added; “Following the success of Coronation Street The Tour – a temporary attraction in Manchester which ended last year having attracted nearly 900,000 visitors - many more guests felt they had missed out when it closed. Continuum with ITV decided to offer a wider national audience the opportunity to step into the world of Corrie; see the soap’s iconic sets, props, memorabilia, costumes and even some of its iconic cobbles. The idea of a tour provided the perfect solution.”
She added; “Scotland has a huge Corrie fan base and the SECC provides one the finest venues in the country - a perfect match. We are therefore delighted to bring to our purpose built show dome - the largest touring structure in the UK – to Glasgow for a limited 18 week run and welcome fans and those who just love TV to Coronation Street on Tour.”
