Rusacks partners with adventure company and brewery

Landyachting
Macdonald Rusacks Hotel in St. Andrews has recently announced a strategic partnership with VisitScotland five-star rated adventure company Blown Away and Scotland’s only combined distillery and brewery Eden Mill to expand its meeting and events offering.
Delegates visiting the luxury hotel, which is just a sand wedge from the 18th hole of the world famous Old Course, can take part in a variety of adrenalin pumping activities as well as Team Building events on the West Sands beach.

Multi award winning Blown Away offers Landyachting to their clients who, even if they have no previous sailing experience, will be able to master quickly the basic skills of controlling the sail and steering before speeding along the beach made famous by the opening scenes of the Oscar winning film Chariots of Fire. For those who don’t mind getting wet, there’s also Beach Kayaking and Stand Up Paddleboarding.

For anyone more inclined to indoor pursuits, not to mention a tipple; there is also now the chance to take a tour of Scotland’s original single site distillery and brewery where the legendary Haig family first made whisky in 1810. Guests will be given a guided tour, including access to areas normally not seen by the public. They will find out about brewing techniques and key ingredients including locally grown botanicals before finishing off with a tasting session.

These newly announced partnerships add to Macdonald Rusacks Hotels meeting and events offering, which includes meeting rooms with capacity for up to 60 delegates, car parking spaces and free Wi-Fi. The hotel boasts 70 luxurious bedrooms for overnight guests to ensure an excellent night’s sleep as well as an award winning restaurant. Those keen to follow in the footsteps of the greatest names in golf can get some top tips from the dedicated golf concierge ahead of a round on one of the championship courses. The hotel is ideally placed as a meetings venue as it is located within 20 minutes of Leuchars rail station, half an hour from Dundee Airport and rail station, and 90 minutes’ drive from Edinburgh.

Kristian Campbell, general manager of Macdonald Rusacks Hotel said: “Our new partnership with Blown Away and Eden Mill will enable us to offer something truly unique to our business and event guests. At Macdonald Hotels & Resorts we have 25 years’ experience of knowing what business guests need and we are looking forward to offering these exciting and bespoke activities.”

Guy McKenzie, partner at Blown Away said: “Macdonald Rusacks Hotel, is the most iconic hotel in golf and we are honoured to be working in partnership with the events team to offer an exhilarating experience for delegates.”

Paul Miller, Managing Director at Eden Mill said: “We are looking forward to welcoming Macdonald Rusacks Hotel business guests and helping them learn a little about how we operate, and of course taste our unique beer, whisky and gin selection.”

This announcement follows news that planning permission has been given for a £7m extension to the hotel, which will include 44 new suites, a rooftop restaurant for 145 diners, bar and terrace, as well as glass-fronted suites allowing visitors to witness up-close the grandeur of golf’s most historic course. The design has been chosen to carefully blend the iconic location with the most luxuriously-appointed accommodation, additions which the company is confident will achieve ‘5 Red Star’ status for the Macdonald Rusacks Hotel. Work is anticipated to begin during 2016.
