Future bright for Macdonald Aviemore Resort with latest investments

Macdonald Aviemore Resort refurbished bedroom
Macdonald Aviemore Resort in the Cairngorm National Park is to invest over £1 million in its Academy Hotel and Aviemore Inn accommodations as the 4-star resort aims to firmly position itself as Scotland’s leading leisure and conference destination.
Part of Macdonald Hotels & Resorts, 2013-2014 AA Hotel Group of the Year, from January next year work will commence to refurbish and upgrade 108 bedrooms within the Academy Hotel and up to 80 newly refurbished bedrooms within the nearby Aviemore Inn.

These latest development plans come just months after the resort completed a £1.6 million investment in bedroom refurbishments at the Highlands Hotel where 98 of 151 ensuite bedrooms were restyled to executive standard.

Collectively, these developments further strengthen its appeal to the business, events and leisure market and underline the group’s commitment to enhance its tourism offering in Aviemore and the Scottish highlands.  By April 2015 the market will have access to over 455 bedrooms, 18 luxury lodges, a 1000 capacity conference centre and eight flexible meeting spaces.

As additional facilities come on stream, residents and non-residents alike also benefit from access to the excellent on-site Spey Valley Shopping area. In July the resort also enhanced its standing as Scotland’s no1 adventure destination with the opening of the 1500 square metre, £600,000 Aviemore Activity Centre.  Potentially one of the largest of its kind in the UK, this interactive indoor space incorporates 9 age specific ‘play zones’ designed to appeal to 2-16 year-old guests and visitors.

Guests of the resort already benefit from a £1 million group-wide investment to provide free unlimited WiFi in the likes of public areas, bedrooms and meeting spaces, with event organisers able to utilise additional bandwidth of up to 100 megabytes per second.

While guests and local children and teenagers alike benefit from the Aviemore Activity Centre and access to a staggering 169 different activities within a one mile radius of the resort, golfers can also unwind in a new £1 million clubhouse overlooking the first tee of the renowned Macdonald Spey Valley Championship Golf Course.

Chris Wayne Wills, recently appointed Chief Executive Officer of Macdonald Aviemore Resort, explained: “Our decision to invest over £1 million in the Academy Hotel and Aviemore Inn will ensure that by April 2015 Macdonald Aviemore Resort is offering over 450 bedrooms of exceptional standard to complement outstanding leisure, business and conference facilities.

“These latest developments also further underline the group’s commitment to Aviemore and tourism in the Scottish highlands, with excellent facilities in place to ensure residents and non-residents alike can enjoy and recognise Macdonald Aviemore Resort as Scotland’s leading conference, business and leisure destination.”

Reflecting a group-wide commitment to the quality of its food offering, the resort has also recently relaunched Macdonald Aviemore Resort’s Scottish Steak Club; the signature restaurant experience of Macdonald Hotels & Resorts.   Serving diners a high quality, value for money food offering in a relaxed and comfortable environment, revisions to the menu include healthy superfood salads to complement the finest steaks in Strathspey as supplied by Scotbeef.
