Hydro14 Conference to be held in Aberdeen later this year

Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (AECC) has announced that the International Federation of Hydrographic Societies Annual International Conference, Hydro14, will be held in Aberdeen in October this year.
Hydro14 will take place on 28th-30th October 2014 at AECC in Aberdeen and is expected to attract more than 350 international delegates to the City.

The theme of the Conference is 'Energy & Enterprise' which acknowledges the City's dominance in the oil, gas and renewables sectors.  Delegates will have to opportunity to hear the latest news on topics including hydrographic surveying techniques, data processing, presentation and more.  The event will also feature a large Exhibition alongside the Conference sessions.

The Conference is organised by The Hydrographic Society UK (THS UK), with support from local Regional members, including former and current chairmen David Bowden and Andy Dare, who helped Aberdeen secure this important international event.  The Hydro14 Committee was successfully awarded funding from the National Subvention Fund through support from VisitScotland’s Business Tourism Unit.

Hydrography is traditionally the measurement of various physical characteristics of the ocean (or other waters) such as bottom depth, currents and waves to produce navigation charts and is nowadays used in many applications including many in the oil and gas industry, as well as leisure activities and the fishing industry, and as such is very relevant to the North East of Scotland.

Brian Horsburgh, AECC’s Managing Director, commented: “Aberdeen is currently attracting a high level of international Conference business which is great for the Region and this particular Conference is of great relevance to the area as it has a strong link to our core industries of oil and gas as well as the links to the fishing industry.  We are delighted that THS UK have chosen Aberdeen as the host City for this key Conference.
