Aberdeen City and Shire Tourism Awards nomination deadline extended

The group behind a new awards scheme which has been launched to recognise outstanding tourism businesses in the north east has been forced to extend the deadline for entries due to unprecedented demand.
Entries were to have closed for the inaugural Aberdeen City and Shire Tourism Awards (ACSTA) on Saturday (November 30) but organisers will now accept nominations up to December 21 in order to accommodate the significant level of interest.

Aberdeen City and Shire Hotels’ Association (ACSHA), which is organising the awards event taking place on March 28 next year, will encourage even more local businesses to step up and submit their nomination.

Iain Watson, general manager of the Park Inn by Radisson Aberdeen and member of the ACSTA organising committee, says, “We are astounded by the high level of interest in the awards, and we made the decision to extend the deadline to allow even more local businesses the opportunity to get their applications in.

“The standard of the entries being submitted is very impressive across all categories and represents the diversity of the tourism offering and the best practice which individuals and operators are using to ensure visitors have the best possible experience during their stay in the region.

“The awards are designed to celebrate everything that is great about our industry, from hotels through to restaurants and on to visitor attractions. We want as many businesses as possible to be a part of this exciting inaugural event and set the standard for entrants in the years to come.”

There are 12 different categories which are open to hotels, restaurants and visitor attractions, as well as key individuals working in the hospitality sector. The awards are open to tourism businesses of all sizes across the City and Shire, and to organisations that are not members of ACSHA.

Award categories are: ambassador of the year; bar/club of the year; community award; customer service award; green award; hotel of the year; local marketing campaign of the year; partnership in tourism; restaurant of the year; visitor attraction of the year; young ambassador of the year; and the lifetime achievement award.

Nominations can be made through the website - - where there is also further information about the requirements for each category. The process is relatively simple, and the entry form is not onerous.

Businesses are requested to submit their applications as soon as possible before the deadline of December 21, 2013, and shortlisted entrants will be announced early next year. Winners will be revealed at an awards ceremony taking place at the Mercure Ardoe House Hotel in Aberdeen on March 28, 2014.

Around 300 people will attend the ceremony which will include a gala dinner and presentation of awards, followed by an evening of dancing and entertainment.
