VisitScotland bus trip clocks up £200k in just two days

Tour puts Scots businesses in the driving seat

Scottish business look set to reap big rewards following VisitScotland’s novel approach to promoting events and conferences north of the Border.
‘Scotland on Tour’ saw representatives from several Scottish businesses, including Fairmont St Andrews, Prestige Scotland and Puma Hotels Collection, travel by coach to meet with nearly 100 event organisers throughout the Midlands..

A series of on-board appointments arranged by VisitScotland’s Business Tourism Unit (BTU) took in stops at Birmingham, Worcester, Coventry, Nottingham, Derby and Leicester.

Over two days, the businesses met with 92 leading event organisers, with £200,000 worth of enquiries already received as a result.

Moira Unwin from VisitScotland’s BTU said: “Scotland is one of the world’s premier conference destinations, boasting cutting-edge facilities, stunning venues and a million reasons for delegates to extend their stay. While a familiarisation trip sees businesses come to Scotland, this is the next best thing – we take Scotland to them. The MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) market is hugely important. Business tourism is worth £1.9 billion to the Scottish economy, but we can’t stand still. Scotland on Tour provides Scottish businesses with invaluable face-to-face meetings with top event organisers across the country.”

As well as the lowdown on some of Scotland’s best conference facilities, event organisers were also given a special taste of Scotland – with Irn Bru and Tunnock’s Tea Cakes available on board.

Mike Lacey-Solymar, owner of Perfect Manors, said: “As owners of luxury venues near Aberdeen and Inverness, we find that Scotland on Tour offers us an incredibly efficient way of meeting large numbers of influential event organisers in a very short space of time - with them only having to travel down the road! I would like to thank VisitScotland for arranging something that we could never have done on our own.”

The companies on Scotland on Tour were:
• Fairmont St Andrews
• Perthshire Business Tourism Group
• Ten Hill Place Hotel (Edinburgh)
• Perfect Manors (Inverness-shire and Aberdeenshire)
• The Point Hotel (Edinburgh)
• Puma Hotels Collection (Stirling, Edinburgh and Troon)
• Prestige Venues & Events (Edinburgh)
