Edinburgh Tourism winter showcase proves to be a blockbuster

A new industry event, the Edinburgh Tourism Showcase, launched to help tourism and hospitality businesses and staff prepare for the coming winter season, has attracted over 600 delegates, making it the largest tourism industry event ever to be held in Edinburgh.
The event will be held at the EICC on Thursday 5 September.

More than 55 exhibitors will be promoting their winter offers including attractions such as Mary King’s Close and Mercat Tours, the Scottish International Storytelling Festival, and 'Previously...' Scotland's History Festival.  Performing arts and theatre venues will be showcasing programmes which this winter includes showstoppers like The Lion King, War Horse and the festive pantomimes, as well National Museums of Scotland with its new 2014 blockbuster exhibition ‘Mammoths of the Ice Age’. Pandas Sweetie and Sunshine will also be making an appearance.

The event is aimed at people working in the tourism and hospitality sectors who come into contact with visitors on a day to day basis, from taxi drivers and tour guides, to concierges and front of house staff in bars, restaurants, shops and attractions, as well as marketing and business development staff from hotels, tour organisers and transport providers.

A new ‘winter’ focussed ETAG Business Opportunity Guide will be launched at the showcase and businesses will be able to sign up for new Winter Product Innovation Workshops

Robin Worsnop, Chair of the Edinburgh Tourism Action Group said: “We are delighted with the enthusiastic response for the showcase from the tourism sector.  Edinburgh has set itself challenging goals in terms of growing winter tourism and it’s heartening to see how our tourism businesses are responding to this challenge.   We were hoping to have around 300 guest registrations and 25 exhibitors to the winter product showcase, but we have more than double that number signed up already.

“It demonstrates the real appetite these organisations have to work together to grow the tourism sector in Edinburgh, particularly in the winter months.”
