Hollywood days at EICC

Kevin Spacey at EICC
Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC) has hosted the Guardian Edinburgh International Television Festival (22-24 August 2013) for the 15th consecutive year with multiple Academy Award winner Kevin Spacey heading this year’s A-List cast.

Spacey, the first actor to deliver the annual MacTaggart Memorial Lecture told industry leaders that opening movies online, in movie theatres and on DVD on the same day would do much to reduce piracy.

He said: "Give people what they want - when they want it - in the form they want it in - at a reasonable price - and they’ll more likely pay for it rather than steal it; well, some will still steal it, but I believe this new model can take a bite out of piracy."

More Hollywood on EICC’s Pentland Auditorium stage came in the form of Great British Bake Off judge, Paul Hollywood alongside fellow judge Mary Berry and co-presenters Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc. Their appearance in Edinburgh came in the same week as their BBC Two reality show netted an unprecedented 5.6m audience for its series four debut.

In addition to hosting the Television Festival each August EICC is also a major venue on the Edinburgh Fringe. In 2013, Venue 150 @ EICC presented five stages for the first time and counted 167 performances over 24 days.
