The North Sea Region Programme Annual Conference 2014 lands in the North East

Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (AECC) has announced that the prestigious international North Sea Region Programme Annual Conference will take place at AECC on the 25th and 26th June 2014.  The conference brings together the European-funded INTERREG North Sea Region Programme and the North Sea Commission international organisation for their annual meeting.

This Conference is expected to attract around 400 delegates from across Europe and will be hosted by Aberdeenshire Council with support from Aberdeen City Council.

The Conference programme covers Regional development projects around the North Sea, promoting transnational co-operation and aims to make the Region a better place to live, work and invest.  The North Sea Region Programme has a role in enhancing the overall quality of life for residents of the Region by ensuring that there is access to more and better jobs, by sustaining and enhancing the acknowledged environmental qualities of the Region, by improving accessibility to places and ensuring that local communities are viable, vibrant and attractive places to live and work.

Aberdeenshire Councillor Peter Argyle commented: “I’m delighted that the North Sea Conference will be hosted by Aberdeenshire Council next year.  In addition to the economic benefit of the conference itself, it will provide an opportunity to develop partnerships for European-funded projects with long term benefits to the North East of Scotland.”

Aberdeen City Council leader Councillor Barney Crockett said: "Aberdeen City Council is a leading player in the North Sea Region Programme.  I am very pleased that this prestigious conference, during which new North Sea Region Programme for 2014-2020 will be launched, is to be held in the city. The conference provides opportunities to develop partnerships to support sustainable economc growth in the area, and local businesses will undoubtedly benefit from the influx of visitors to Aberdeen.

“The conference will provide an excellent opportunity to showcase the city on an international platform."

Brian Horsburgh, AECC’s Managing Director, commented: “As the National Energy Exhibition Centre this Conference is pertinent and highly relevant to AECC, and the Region as a whole.  We are proud to be the chosen Venue and look forward to working with the organisers over the coming year.”
