Grand Central voted most historic Hotel in Scotland by

The iconic Grand Central Hotel in Glasgow, part of the award winning PH Hotels group, has scooped a prestigious ‘Simply the Guest’ award from after making it into its list of the Top Ten Most Historic Hotels in the UK – the only Scottish hotel to make the list.

The Grand Central Hotel re-launched in 2011 following a major £20m refurbishment by the PH Hotels group which saw the iconic city centre property brought back to its former glory. Since re-opening Grand Central has quickly re-established itself as the city’s leading four star hotel while paying tribute to its illustrious past.

Grand Central, which dates back to 1883, has a rich and glamorous history brimming with tales of decadent balls and VIP guests ranging from politicians and dignitaries through to A-list celebrities and even the Queen.

Stars that have stayed at Grand Central over the years include Laurel & Hardy, Cary Grant, Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire and Vivien Leigh – all which are documented in the Grand Central’s glossy history book ‘Glasgow’s Grand Central Hotel: Glasgow’s Best Loved Hotel’ .

Speaking on the award win, General Manager of Grand Central, Laurie Nicol said: “We are delighted to have made it into’s list of the top ten most historic hotels in the UK – it definitely deserves the recognition. The story of the Grand Central is fascinating and it’s great to see that our guests are as interested in its history as we are.”

Earlier this month the Stereophonics played a surprise gig at the Grand Central Hotel’s second annual charity ball continuing on the hotel’s tradition for attracting the stars. The glamorous event, which was held in partnership with Radio Clyde and hosted by top DJ Robin Galloway, saw over 350 guests gather to celebrate the hotel’s second birthday since its £20m refurbishment while raising funds for Cash For Kids., the hotel booking specialist, compiled its list of the Top Ten Historic Hotels by using its extensive database of genuine customer reviews. A recent survey by revealed that 40% of customers would not book a hotel without reading customer reviews first.

The Grand Central Hotel is Glasgow’s premier four star hotel offering 186 stylish guest bedrooms in addition to its decadent Champagne Central bar overlooking the concourse of Central Station and elegant restaurant, Tempus. Deli Central, a popular lunch time hot spot on Hope Street, is also part of Grand Central Hotel.

The Grand Central Hotel is also a popular venue for private events and functions thanks to its 21 flexible function spaces and its stunning ballroom – the Grand Room of Glasgow.
