Royal York Hotel appoints new Executive Chef

The luxurious, four star Royal York Hotel has announced the appointment of new Executive Head Chef, Gary Jenkins.
With over 30 years of experience in the hospitality industry, Gary has worked in a number of high profile establishments including the prestigious 5 star Gleneagles Hotel in Auchterarder and Manchester’s Marriott Worsley Park Hotel. More recently Gary was Executive Head Chef for 6 years at the iconic Midland Hotel in Manchester.


In his new role Gary will head up a team of 15 staff in the kitchen and will be responsible for all of the Royal York Hotel’s food and beverage outlets including Tempus bar and restaurant and the hotel’s extensive conference and banqueting facilities.

Gary said: “I’m thrilled to be part of the team at the Royal York Hotel and am looking forward to the new challenges ahead. I am passionate about sourcing quality, local produce and am enjoying meeting with Yorkshire suppliers to ensure we have the finest ingredients on the menu at the Royal York Hotel.”

Speaking on the appointment, general manager Tony Furlong, said: “I’m delighted to welcome Gary onboard. Gary is a talented Chef with many years’ experience in the hospitality industry. I’m sure Gary will be a great asset to the team and share his culinary knowledge with junior members of staff.”

Gary studied Food Hygiene Management and passed his City & Guilds 706/1&2 at Rochdale Technical College before going onto start his career at the prestigious Gleneagles Hotel, Auchterarder. Over the years he has worked in a variety of hotels developing his own skills and sharing his extensive knowledge with many trainees.

Gary’s biggest challenge of his career to date was when the Marriott Worsley Park, Manchester opened its doors. Gary was asked to achieve one AA rosette in the first 12 months and with his expertise passion and commitment Gary successfully achieved the AA rating within the first five weeks of opening.

Throughout his career, Gary has achieved many accolades including Michelin recommended, AA rosettes and recommendation in the Good Food Guide.
