Travelport appoints new General Manager for Southern Africa

Well known travel industry executive, Robyn Christie, to lead Travelport Southern Africa

Travelport has announced the appointment of seasoned industry professional, Robyn Christie, as its new general manager for Southern Africa. Based at Travelport’s offices in Johannesburg, Christie will have overall responsibility for Travelport’s strategic objectives and commercial operations in Southern Africa as well as overseeing the introduction of new, industry leading Travelport technology to customers in the region.

Christie’s career spans over thirty years in the corporate world, spending the past fifteen years in the retail travel industry. She joins Travelport from ASATA (Association of South African Travel Agents) where she has held the position of CEO since 2007. In this role, she has worked closely with the trade and other stakeholders, including government, and repositioned ASATA as a world class trade body.

“Robyn is an experienced industry leader, and her expertise, together with the relationships she has fostered with the trade, put her in the best position to lead the local team and take our business forward,” commented Mark Meehan, managing director for Travelport in Africa.

Commenting on her new role, Christie said: “Now is a very exciting time to be joining the Travelport team in Southern Africa; with a new Travelport African hub established in Johannesburg, I look forward to playing a central role in the new team going forward and feel confident that there will be ample opportunities to take the business from strength to strength.”

Travelport Southern Africa is further strengthening its local sales team with the promotion of Marco Cristofoli as director of regional sales. “In the year and a half that he has been with the company, Marco has played a key role in the development of customer relationships and has proven to be an invaluable member of the team” added Meehan.
