New associate director at Legacy Hotels

A forward-thinking UK-wide hotel group has appointed an Associate Director to help them further expand their portfolio.
Highly experienced Charles Prew, who has worked in the hotel industry for 44 years, has joined Legacy Hotels and Resorts, which was formed in 2005, in order to increase their volume and variety of management contracts as well as helping them move into asset management in regional hotels across the UK.

Charles established The Prew Partnership last year and was appointed by Ernst and Young in the role of CEO to maximise the trading performance during the administration of Von Essen Hotels which led to the successful sale of the majority of its hotels.

Since last September, he has provided asset management services to the owner of six InterContinental Hotels in major European cities with a brief to improve both the quality of the product and the profitability of the hotels.

The 65–year-old’s impressive CV also includes being CEO of Paramount Hotels, and Chairman of Hilton Hotels Australia and New Zealand.

He said he was excited about joining Legacy Hotels and Resorts as an Associate Director and to increasing their portfolio of 30-strong properties.

“There are three key reasons why I have joined Legacy Hotels and Resorts,” Charles said.

“I want to help them progress into asset management in regional hotels in the UK to add a new string to the company’s bow because it is important to be flexible in a rapidly changing industry.

“I will also be supporting them in their aim to develop their range of management contracts to include more four-star and branded properties.

“Finally, I want to play a part in Legacy building on their reputation of becoming the first port of call to support administrators to turn around under-performing hotels as this is an area in which I have built up my knowledge of sales and marketing alongside distribution expertise which sits well with my ability to reduce unnecessary operating costs.

“I am looking forward to enhancing Legacy’s reputation in new areas within the industry.”

Andy Townsend, Chief Executive of Legacy Hotels and Resorts, said Charles was a welcome addition to the board.

He said: “There are a number of projects which we feel Charles will be able to progress to further enhance our business in new markets.

“We are constantly looking to seek new opportunities and Charles’ experience in the hospitality industry in Europe, Asia Pacific and Australia will prove invaluable in taking Legacy to the next level.”
