Whitworth Hall appoints new General Manager

Christopher Ashby
The owners of Whitworth Hall Country Hotel and Deer Park near Durham have appointed Christopher Ashby as general manager. He brings with him a wealth of four star hotel experience including, most recently, as general manager at one of Lancashire's premier wedding and conference venues, the historic Bartle Hall.

Before joining Bartle Hall Ashby was, for eleven years, general manager of Hob Green Hotel, Restaurant and Garden in North Yorkshire and he has also worked at the iconic Colony Club in Barbados.

Commenting on his appointment to Whitworth Hall  he said, "I was sad to leave Bartle Hall after only 3 years but the temptation to join Whitworth Hall at a time when the owners are investing in the hotel and gardens was too strong to turn down.  It's a lovely hotel with a warm atmosphere and efficient staff who are very enthusiastic about growing the business."

Ashby has already started to implement a number of new ideas and is busy recruiting to strengthen the kitchen team. With regard to the food and beverage side, he said: "We have two distinctive restaurants; a popular brasserie and a more traditional restaurant. We're lifting the restaurant to an even higher level both in terms of presentation, menus and service to give added value for overnight guests and make Whitworth Hall a must visit destination.  Additionally, the new afternoon tea menu introduces one or two innovative surprises alongside the classics for which we've already had fantastic feedback."

Another new concept Ashby has introduced is the opportunity to take over the whole hotel for a wedding. "Whitworth Hall is the perfect wedding venue and lends itself so well for exclusive use.  The same goes for company events.  With 70 acres of parkland it's ideal for team building and there's masses of space inside for organisations to make it their own."
