The Savoy appoints Russell Durnell as Executive Assistant Manager, Sales and Marketing

The Savoy, a Fairmont Managed Hotel, welcomes Russell Durnell to head up its Sales and Marketing team. Russell will be based at The Savoy as Executive Assistant Manager, Sales and Marketing, effective from Monday 29 February 2016.
Russell brings with him over 20 years of luxury hospitality experience and joins The Savoy from the Jumeirah Carlton Tower, London where he held the position of Operations Director.

Originally from the UK, Russell has spent much of his career working abroad, first in Brisbane and then in Sydney with Starwood, playing a key role in establishing the W brand in Australia as Director of Sales and Marketing at the W Sydney, and then moving up to a regional Sales and Marketing role with Starwood. Russell was also responsible for the pre-opening marketing strategy for W Retreat & Spa Maldives.

Following his time with Starwood, Russell held the positions of Director of Marketing for Langham hotels, based in Melbourne, and then Director of Sales and Marketing – Projects for Langham Hotels International, which saw him based in Hong Kong for two years and involved in the pre-openings for Langham Shanghai, Beijing and Koh Samui.

Demonstrating strength and a passion for the operational side of hospitality alongside his sales and marketing expertise, Russell then took on the role of General Manager at the Palazzo Versace on the Gold Coast where he was based for five years before returning to Brisbane to complete an opening for Next Hotels. It was after this that Russell returned to home soil to join Jumeirah.
