During that time he was responsible for managing an annual £3.8m turnover in match day hospitality, public stadium operation and conference and events, driving sales revenues and making Goodison Park one of Merseyside’s most sought after venues, for everything from large scale meetings to private dinners and social events.
Prior to working at Goodison Park, Ian spent around 21 years in the hotel industry, with International chains such as Intercontinental, Millennium Copthorne, Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza and, latterly, the Portland Thistle Hotel, Manchester, where he built on the success of the renowned Winston’s Champagne bar and restaurant, and the conference and events dept.
He will now bring a total of 36 years in the hospitality industry to bear at The John Smith’s Stadium in his new role of general manager at the leading West Yorkshire venue, which is home to Huddersfield Town Association Football Club and Huddersfield Giants Rugby Super League Club.
The conference and event facilities at the stadium are managed by leading UK catering company Sodexo Prestige Venues & Events and in his new role, Ian will be tasked with repeating his success at Goodison Park.
He will be charged with promoting The John Smith’s Stadium’s match day and non-match day hospitality and events department, along with supporting the main partner, Kirklees Stadium Development Limited, with its development programme of HD1 increasing footfall across retail and hospitality development.
