During the meeting, the remaining members of the new executive panel were also chosen. The CEO of the International Convention Centre Sydney, Geoff Donaghy continues to act as President, accompanied by Aloysius Arlando, CEO of the Singapore EXPO Convention and Exhibition Centre, as Vice President, and Hilmar Guckert, Managing Director of the CCD Congress Centre Düsseldorf, who acts as treasurer.
The Executive Vice President of the Amsterdam RAI Convention Centre, Jan van
den Bosch; the CEO of the Cape Town International Convention Centre, Julie-
May Ellingson; and Gregory A. O’Dell, President and CEO of the Walter E.
Washington Convention Center were also elected as members of the Board of
Directors along with the General Manager of the CCIB.
Rodríguez affirms that this appointment “strengthens the international position of the CCIB as a benchmark in the events organisation sector worldwide.
Furthermore, it allows us to boost cooperation and synergies among the different member centres”. The manager of the CCIB also intends to “underscore topics that we consider to be of vital importance and that we implement in our centre, such as the implementation of environmentally friendly measures, and the constant adaptation of our services to meet the changing needs of our customers”.
The CCIB maintains close ties with the association. Since 2010, Barcelona’s centre has been home to the AIPC Operations Summit, an executive meeting held in Barcelona to coincide with the IBTM (formerly EIBTM), the sector’s main exhibition. Additionally, on several occasions the CCIB has received awards from the AIPC for the recognition of excellence in conference centres all around the world.
