ISES UK appoints former Eventice winner as Operations Manager

Elena Clowes

Elena Clowes, Events Management graduate and Eventice winner 2014, has been appointed as Operations Manager of ISES UK.

Elena, 22, will handle all operational activity for the UK chapter of ISES, organising the regular events, handling suppliers and liaising with the ISES board and members.
Elena commented: “This is a fantastic start to my event’s career; the opportunities that ISES offers are invaluable, allowing me to experience the best of the events industry.

“I’ve been attending ISES events since 2013. The student discount ISES offers made them really accessible for me during my studies. I particularly enjoyed the more educational ISES events – but I realised all of them offered a great opportunity to network and get a feel of the industry for when I graduated.”

Kelly Baker, President of ISES UK, explained; “Elena has shown a proactive and passionate approach to learning more about the industry. I’d met her at numerous events and was impressed by her keen interest in ISES prior to applying for the position.”

In particular, Elena impressed board members with her initiative to organise events outside of her studies or employment. Most recently, Elena spotted an opportunity on the second day of Confex to target an event to the student audience. Elena and fellow Eventice 2014 finalist Caitlin organised an industry speaker panel which included Jane Hague and Andy Hughes to speak in front of 45 international students on the topics of “where your event career can take you”.

During her final year at Hertfordshire University, Elena won The Eventice, an Apprentice-style competition which brings the next generation of talent into the event industry, resulting in a job at global experiential agency George P Johnson.

What are Elena’s plans for the future of ISES?
“Coming up on 15th May is ISES Accelerate; an international conference inviting industry delegates from all around the world” she explains. “It’s very exciting to be involved in this event, but I also enjoy the smaller, more intimate events too. Throughout my career at ISES, I have plans to learn as much as possible and meet as many people as possible.”

Elena leaves a Event Sales Associate role at The Grove Hotel where she was client-facing, dealing with corporate enquiries and events.
