Paul Vallee joins GainingEdge

Global convention industry consulting firm, GainingEdge, has announced that Paul Vallee is now heading up its operations in the Americas. With a career spanning over 25 years in destination sales, marketing and services management, Vallee was formerly the Executive Vice President of Tourism Vancouver (the Metro Vancouver Convention and Visitors Bureau).

Vallee will lead GainingEdge’s development efforts in both North and South America and will also replace Jane Vong Holmes as Managing Director of BestCities, the global convention bureau alliance that is managed by GainingEdge. Vong Holmes, who has served as Managing Director of BestCities for the past six years, will now be shifting more focus to her role as Senior Manager of GainingEdge’s Asian operations.

GainingEdge CEO, Gary Grimmer, said that Vallee would be taking a senior role in the organization. “Paul is highly respected globally and played a major role in building Tourism Vancouver to be one of the most successful and sophisticated bureaus in the world.” Grimmer said. “Paul adds additional strength to our consulting team in general, but also gives us a permanent presence in North America. That is key for us, because we understand clearly that if we want to provide support to the industry there, we need a strong, capable and well known presence in-market.”

Vallee has also been very involved in helping guide BestCities over the years by representing Vancouver’s participation on the board of directors of the world leading bureau alliance.

“I’m excited about this new appointment for two reasons,” Vallee said. “It provides the opportunity to work for BestCities and to help to further develop its success and strategic direction. At the same time I get to be part of GainingEdge’s expansion efforts in the Americas. GainingEdge is so well established in all other parts of the world. It has already been exploring opportunities in Latin America as a developing market. But, North America is a major developed market, and our goal is to make sure people know that GainingEdge is here to support their needs as well.”

GainingEdge works globally in three main areas, destination and bureau consulting, convention centre development consulting and in-market convention sales representation. Vallee has served on the boards of BestCities, Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI), the 2010 Winter Olympic Bid Marketing Committee, the Tourism Industry Association of Canada, and the Vancouver Convention Centre Expansion Task Force. He is also on faculty at Capilano University where he teaches international destination marketing in the school of tourism management.
