Conrad London St. James has announced the appointment of Michael Riordan as Executive Chef. With 26 years of expertise in international luxury hotel cookery, Riordan brings strong leadership and influential character to the position. His progressive background in F&B and direct, innovative leadership skills have been acknowledged by awards such as the Marriott International Chef of the Year in 2010, as well as participation in the Global Culinary School in Washington, United States. A well-rounded chef luminary, Riordan is also heavily involved in charity and spearheads industry education in conjunction with Westminster College.

Riordan said of his appointment, “I look forward to the challenge of working with a new team and implementing an innovative menu to delight guests and compliment the creative food offering already in existence at the hotel. With lots of changes on the horizon, it is set to be an exciting year.”

An ideal fit for Conrad London St. James, Riordan offers experience as Executive Chef with London’s finest hotels and Private Members’ Clubs. Prior to joining, Riordan studied cookery at Westminster College and established an illustrious career with the Renaissance St. Pancras Hotel, Millennium Gloucester Hotel, Renaissance Chancery Court Hotel and Les Ambassadeurs Club, among many others.

The affable Riordan’s passion for food and dedication to the industry also extends to future generations of catering professionals. He has spearheaded apprentice schemes for trainee chefs, building relationships with Westminster College to ensure practical training is partnered by the theory of cookery. With this as one of his key passions, Riordan offers exceptional familiarity mentoring junior members of staff.

Similarly, working in conjunction with a primary school near his home in Hornchurch, Riordan has introduced a healthy eating programme to students, including fruit and vegetable identification classes, smoothie making and brainstorming healthy meal ideas. His healthy focus is a perfect match for the fresh, regional ingredients, celebrating the very best in seasonal British cuisine. Riordan is also an avid charity supporter, volunteering his services to the local school for raffle prizes, travelling to the winner’s house and preparing a dinner party. With this innovative personality and passion for culinary arts, Riordan aligns seamlessly with the team at Conrad London St. James.
