Jennie will be responsible for the overall programming, management and attraction of events business at both legacy venues. Her role will place particular emphasis on identifying new and current conference, special events and entertainment accounts.
With over 20 years' experience in the events industry, Jennie's track record includes an eight year stint at the O2 Arena, most recently as Event Sales Director with six years spent at Excel London as Senior Sales Manager, both roles focusing on corporate and special events. Key achievements during this time include securing large scale events such as the Salvation Army International Congress, the National Television Awards and St James Place Wealth Management Conference.
Jennie's appointment comes at a key time for GLL, which has seen massive expansion and diversification over recent years. It is now the UK's largest leisure operator and oversees the operation of over 150 public leisure centres and 27 libraries in partnership with around 30 councils, agencies and sporting organisations and employs more nearly 7,000 people.
Formerly Olympic and Paralympic venues at the London 2012 Games, the Copper Box Arena and the London Aquatics Centre reopened to the public in 2013 and 2014 respectively. They have already become recognised as two of London's most versatile, innovative and popular venues, hosting major events such as the 2014 Invictus Games, BBC Sainsburys Sport Relief, Toni & Guy Masterclass, Fiat 500X Launch with Dynamo, and Zaha Hadid's launch party at the London Aquatics Centre.
Tony Wallace, Head of Major Venues at GLL, said, "Jennie's appointment as Commercial Events Director will help us to attract diverse high end brands and become established iconic event venues whilst ensuring that the Copper Box Arena and the London Aquatics Centre continue to play a vital and vibrant role in the lasting legacy of London 2012."
Jennie Double added, "I am delighted to be given the opportunity to work with the team here on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and to play an active role in fulfilling GLL's Olympic legacy commitments. "I'm looking forward to building on the successes already achieved and will work to firmly establish both locations as London's premier venues for sporting, corporate and entertainment events."
Peter Tudor, Director of Visitor Services, London Legacy Development Corporation, said, "It is great news that Jennie Double is bringing her tremendous experience to the Copper Box Arena and the London Aquatics Centre. She will play a key role in securing a range of sporting, corporate and entertainment events as well as bring commercial opportunities to the venues. This is an extraordinary opportunity to help shape these iconic venues on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park."
