This September, Sofitel introduces La Parisienne by Sofitel at Sofitel London St James, a photo exhibition that takes an intimate look at one of the world’s most captivating communities, Les Parisiennes.
Curated by the famous French magazine Paris Match, La Parisienne by Sofitel explores La Parisienne
style and culture through the decades, celebrating women whose enchanting elegance and innate
sense of style symbolise the City of Lights.
The two-part exhibition features 22 iconic photos of Parisians dating back to the 1950s from the photography collection of Paris Match, including some shots from renowned Paris Match photographer Emanuele Scorcelletti.
From archived shots of Catherine Deneuve and Jane Fonda through to more recent photographs of Inès de la Fressange and Lou Doillon, the exhibition presents an enchanting insight into the lives of some of the world’s most feted women.
The contemporary part of the exhibition features 10 winning photos selected by jury from the La Parisienne photo contest that ran across France. The nationwide competition, open to amateur and young professional photographers, challenged entrants to capture what La Parisienne embodies today.
La Parisienne by Sofitel embodies a key Sofitel pillar: culture and art de vivre. As an ambassador of French elegance around the world, Sofitel makes it a point of honour to celebrate its French heritage via numerous cultural events linked to literature, fashion and art.
The exhibition will continue its voyage in November that will take it to Warsaw, Amsterdam, Lisbon and Budapest before continuing on to other destinations around the world. At each stop, La Parisienne by Sofitel will spend several weeks in a specific Sofitel hotel, allowing travellers all around the world to discover Paris – and Les Parisiennes – through the decades.
Since 2014, Sofitel photo exhibitions have included Revealed by Sofitel, a photographic exhibition which captured the world’s greatest modern artists at work in the intimate setting of their workshops, curated by Olivier Widmaier Picasso, grandson of Pablo Picasso; Elles by Gilles Bensimon, which featured influential works by one of the most accomplished and well-known fashion photographers in the world; Brigitte Bardot Forever, which featured an exclusive selection of 30 photos that traced the French icon’s career; and Fashion Stills, which revealed a rare sneak peek at the secret world of haute couture.
La Parisienne by Sofitel is opening at Sofitel London St James from 27th September 2016 until 17th November 2016. Admission free.
