Slaley Hall dazzles in corporate and media spotlight

Offering outstanding golf, hotel and leisure facilities, Slaley Hall is the ideal setting for a corporate event, and businesses from all over the UK had the exclusive chance to experience the award-winning Hexham resort for themselves last month.

Leading figures from the business community gathered alongside a selection of media from England and Scotland and some top local sporting celebrities at the QHotels venue for a ‘Corporate Golf Showcase Day’.

As well as enjoying a luxury breakfast and the chance to hone their golf swings using Slaley Hall’s extensive practice facilities, guests were treated to an 18-hole shotgun team competition on the resort’s renowned Hunting Course.

Top golf trick shot star ‘Tricky Rob’ was on hand to dazzle the audience – including the likes of Durham and former England fast bowler Graham Onions – before golf with a 30-minute display of his full repertoire of skills, with guests also enjoying post-golf drinks and a lavish prize-giving dinner as part of the day.

Onions said: “As golfers have come to expect, Slaley Hall’s Hunting Course was in perfect condition. The course is always a great challenge – particularly when the pin positions are tough - and is a real favourite of mine in the region.

“QHotels golf and the Slaley Hall team did an excellent job in hosting a cracking golf day with a great balance of fun and professionalism … and it was topped off by securing victory in the team event.

“I always love going to Slaley Hall. It’s an amazing place to relax and offers golfers two outstanding golf courses and a feast of other entertainment to enjoy.“

Set in 1,000 acres of Northumberland moorland and forest and boasting two 18-hole championship courses – the Hunting and Priestman – Slaley Hall also features an array of other sports, adventure and leisure activities, making it the UK’s number one resort for golf and outdoor pursuits.

From adrenalin-fuelled activities such as quad biking, 4x4 off-road driving and hovercraft driving to kayaking, clay-pigeon shooting and archery, the venue has something to suit all thrill-seekers looking for a challenge away from the fairways.

John Angus, group golf director for QHotels, said: “QHotels is the market leader in providing corporate events in the MICE sector, and we have used all of our knowledge and our expertise within this area to put together a corporate golf offering that we are extremely proud of.

“With all of our golf resorts offering extensive four-star facilities and a high-quality food and beverage service, we have considerably strengthened our position in the market for offering affordable quality in key regional locations, and it is a sector that is growing fast for us.”

One of 10 QHotels golf resorts and the flagship golf venue in the group, Slaley Hall was named best golf resort in the north of England at the 2016 Today’s Golfer Travel Awards and, having celebrated its 25th anniversary last year, is looking forward to further success under the guidance of new general manager Christopher Wayne-Wills.

Its two championship golf courses have played host to no fewer than 18 European Tour and European Senior Tour events, with the likes of Colin Montgomerie, Lee Westwood and Retief Goosen among the list of winners.

Often dubbed ‘The Augusta of the North’, the 7,000-yard, par-72 Hunting, which was designed by Dave Thomas, offers lush sweeping fairways, streams, lakes, towering trees and banks of rhododendrons. Complementing its sister course is the Priestman, which opened in 1999 and sits on the west side of the estate, with panoramic views of the Tyne Valley and some daunting water features for players to negotiate if they are to score well.

Named AA Hotel Group of the Year in 2014/15, the multi-award-winning four-star QHotels golf group offers tournament and championship-standard courses in a range of unique resort locations across England and Scotland.
