Macdonald Burlington to be 'Best conference hotel in city'

Macdonald Hotels’ newly promoted general manager at Macdonald Burlington Hotel in Birmingham aims to make the historic hotel the best conference hotel in the city. Experienced hotelier James Bee has overseen a 30 per cent increase in conference room sales in the last four years as well as seeing the venue recognised at the highest level of customer satisfaction for conferences achieving the BDRC Continental VenueVerdict Gold accreditation for each quarter of 2014.

The four star Macdonald Burlington Hotel which is close to both Birmingham airport and New Street train station combines Victorian splendour and stylish interior design with impeccable service. The hotel is nestled amid the stunning architecture of the city's bustling New Street. Guests are able to enjoy beautiful period style luxury within walking distance of world-class shopping and entertainment. The hotel has 16 flexible and inspirational function rooms which can cater for up to 400 guests, with features such as glittering chandeliers and a dedicated entrance.  

James said: “Macdonald Burlington is one of the most iconic hotels in Birmingham and as a local lad it’s a real honour to have been appointed as general manager. My aim is to make this historic building Birmingham’s leading conference hotel. We have plans in the pipeline to invest in the hotel and I am excited to be given the opportunity to manage these plans. I am also keen to continue to offer our guests fantastic service by developing our ethnically and culturally diverse team towards being renowned as one of the best hospitality providers in the city.”  

After graduating from Birmingham College of Food, Tourism & Creative Studies in 2000 James spent more than a decade in the hospitality industry in management positions at luxury hotels including Jurys Inn before joining Macdonald Hotels. During his time with the Jurys Inn hotel group, James received recognition for operating his hotel sustainably, twice winning the Green Business in Tourism Gold Award. Over the last four years at Macdonald Burlington Hotel James’ successes include increasing bedroom sales by more than 20 per cent between 2013 and 2016 and increasing its TripAdvisor ranking by twelve places in the city’s hotel rankings.
