Grupo Hotusa reaffirms commitment in Germany

Spanish tourism company Grupo Hotusa will be at ITB in Berlin (Stand 320, Hall 9), the leading trade fair for the tourism sector now in its 50th year, in order to demonstrate how important Germany is in its internationalisation plans. The company, which will also participate in the 19th edition of the Hotel Investment Forum, is holding a cocktail party featuring Spanish products at Eurostars Berlin Luxury Class Hotel and has invited more than 300 representatives of German society, business and tourism.

This is the third year in a row that Grupo Hotusa has organised this event to encourage networking among guests and promote the Spain brand.

President of Grupo Hotusa Amancio López Seijas says “Germany has been, is and will be an extremely important country for the company’s international growth, both in terms of distribution and marketing services for hotels through our central booking services and incorporating new hotels into the Eurostars Hotel Company, our hotel management division.”

Last year, Grupo Hotusa posted revenue of 955 million euros, up 21% from the 785 million euros in 2014. Amancio López Seijas said 2015 was “our best year yet, with excellent results thanks to consolidation of know-how, diversification of business lines and internationalisation, even during a recession.”

The company currently manages six establishments in Germany, in destinations including Berlin, Munich and Regensburg, through its Eurostars Hotels and Exe Hotels chains. López says “We believe we will boost our presence in other cities over the coming year either by purchasing, leasing or managing hotels, or through other mixed formulas.” In this regard, the company has launched a franchise scheme called In Good Company, which will allow hotel owners to benefit from belonging to a consolidated chain, like Exe Hotels, without giving up direct management of their establishments.

Among other advantages, the hotels that join this scheme will have access to the Exe Hotels central booking system, be included on the chain’s website and other promotion and marketing materials (brochures, trade fairs, etc.), participate in exclusive training programmes and get access to the most advanced techniques, tools and guidance regarding revenue management.

Likewise, Hotusa Hotels, the chain of independent hotels that gave rise to the company, also plans to expand its presence in Germany, attracting new hotels for its various brands. Right now, the largest hotel consortium in the world, with more than 2,700 members, has 30 German associates in its network.

Extensive hotel presence in Germany
Eurostars Hotel Company, the hotel division of Grupo Hotusa, already has 6 hotels in Germany. The company began its expansion in this country in 2004, opening Eurostars Park Hotel Maximilian in Regensburg and the Regent Hotel in Munich.

The company’s big push in Germany, however, came in 2008 when it invested 125 million euros to develop two hotels in Munich and one in Berlin. In the Bavarian capital, the company opened the Eurostars Grand Central Hotel, with avant-garde design characterised by its top-notch comfort and innovation, and the Eurostars Book Hotel, an upscale hotel in the centre of Munich with a highly unique cultural flair. In the German capital, the company opened Eurostars Berlin in 2012, an emblematic hotel located on the city’s most important shopping street, and Exe Klee Berlin in 2014, an establishment that stands out as a tribute to painter Paul Klee and for its avant-garde rooms.

With nearly 40 years of history, Grupo Hotusa is one of the most important tourism groups in Spain with several associated companies working in a wide range of areas in the sector, though focusing mainly on those tied to hotels. With more than 4,000 employees, the group features the largest hotel consortium in the world, Hotusa Hotels, with more than 2,700 members; the Keytel hotel representative, with 1,400 members; the Restel central booking system, which provides distribution services to nearly 100,000 hotels; and Eurostars Hotel Company, the hotel management division with a portfolio of 149 hotels in 15 countries.
